Ginger - A General Description

Ginger (Zingiber) is a perennial herb from the ginger family. The subordinate root, which forms the fibrous system, the rhizome in the form of an underground shoot gives subordinate roots and aerial shoots. The integumentary tissues in the form of a cork, in place of the primary cortex, a parenchyma with closed collateral bundles and yellow-green essential oil is observed. The stem is erect, leaves are simple, lanceolate, with a pointed apex. On short peduncles there are flowers in spike-shaped inflorescences. The green cup consists of 5 leaves, the fruit is in the form of a tricuspid box.

Ginger - types and places of growth

There are seven species of this spicy medicinal plant, distributed mainly in China, India, West Africa, Barbados and the island of Jamaica. Ginger came to Europe only in the Middle Ages as a spice. The main value of ginger is contained in its root, which has the appearance of several divided pieces resembling figures located in the same plane.

Unrefined and unprocessed ginger is called black, washed and peeled from a dense surface layer - white. Dried black ginger in the sun produces a more burning taste than white. Old rhizome on a yellowish fracture. From the roots of ginger make tinctures, infusions, as well as powder.

Ginger - healing properties

The healing properties of ginger were noted by the great Confucius. Almost all organs can experience its healing properties, but mainly they are used as a medicine for skin, allergic diseases, and bronchial asthma.

Ginger is also used for the following diseases: atherosclerosis, metabolic disorders, high cholesterol, paralysis, jaundice, worms, and stomach ulcers. Also, root extract helps with motion sickness, painful menstruation, strengthens blood vessels and thyroid activity. In addition, ginger increases sex drive and slows down aging.

Ginger - dosage forms

Common colds are treated with ginger tea with honey. Ginger root is used in the form of powder, decoctions and tinctures. Wild ginger - turmeric - is used as a spice in cooking and for joint diseases, compresses are used for headaches and rheumatism. The skin of the root of the plant has a diuretic effect.

Ginger Recipes

- Treatment of an upset stomach - mix a quarter teaspoon of ginger and nutmeg with half a glass of white yogurt and half a glass of water.

- Headache treatment: mix ginger (half a teaspoon) with warm water, mix until a paste forms. Apply to the forehead or near the sinuses.

- Pull the contents of the boil with turmeric: mix half a teaspoon of ginger and turmeric with water, apply the resulting paste to the boil.

- Treatment of hemorrhoids: take a teaspoon of aloe juice and a pinch of ginger (mixed) twice a day.

- Ginger bath for muscle fatigue: boil 2–3 tablespoons of ginger powder for 10 minutes in a liter of water. Add to the bath and take the procedure for 20 minutes.

Ginger - contraindications

The root is miraculous - a special medicine that can be contraindicated in the same diseases that it can alleviate. This paradox is associated, first of all, with the fact that the action of the substance is very strong, therefore, in the stage of exacerbation of allergic diseases and cardiac abnormalities, it is necessary to wait for the decrease in intensity, and then start treatment.
