Danish scientists say: long-term use of hormonal contraceptives doubles the risk of developing brain cancer.

Specialists studied 317 women with brain oncology and 2126 healthy ones. The age of the subjects - 15-49 years. It turned out that those who used oral and vaginal hormonal contraceptives, almost 50% more often had malignant tumors in the brain. And for those who have used these drugs for five years, the risk of cancer has increased to 90%. The most dangerous were contraceptives containing progestogen in its pure form, since the female sex hormone progesterone is able to actively stimulate the growth of cancer cells.

Analysis of the data showed that glioblastoma was most often diagnosed for the participants in the medical observation - one of the most active types of brain tumors.
