Tatarnik - general description
Tatarnik (prickly thistle, thistle, thistle, thistle, prickly burdock) is a perennial plant that has an upright stalk, often reaching 2 meters in height, spiny leaves and purple flowers gathered in baskets. Tatar plants blooms from June to August.
Tatarnik - types and places of growth
There are more than a hundred varieties of tatarnar, it is rather difficult to understand the nuances because of their great similarity, it is not surprising that more and more often different types of tatarnik are called in one word - “thistle”.
Despite the fact that the plant is a symbol of Switzerland (due to the wide distribution of tatarnik in the country), thistle can often be found in the southern regions of Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic states, Belarus and Tatarstan. Tatarnik loves to "settle" near highways, at the fences of private households, as well as in wastelands and in the steppes.
Tatarnik - medicinal properties
Tatarnik is quite actively used both in official and in folk medicine, with it they get rid of cough, colds, symptoms of asthma, cystitis and hemorrhoids. Decoction from the plant is used as a diuretic. People’s healers have long discovered that thistle increases heart rate, increases muscle tone and blood pressure.
A medicine based on tatarnik is used not only inside, but also as an external agent, for example, lotions and compresses are made of it for skin diseases (purulent wounds and ulcers). Tatarnik is used to accelerate the process of rehabilitation of patients who underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumor.
Tatarnik - dosage forms
To prepare the medicine, flower baskets, leaves and young shoots of the plant are used, the whole aerial part of the tatarnik is used, provided that there are no too coarse stems. I use plant roots much less often.
To collect the base for tinctures and decoctions should be at the very beginning of the flowering period (first half of June). From the aboveground parts of the plant, you can extract juice (by pressing) or dry shredded grass (thoroughly dry the tatarn in fresh air, previously spreading it out in a small layer on paper). Typically, the blanks are stored in glass jars, bags of natural fabrics or paper bags.
